The journal Mountain Research and Development (MRD) in collaboration with Guest Editors from the Scientific Network for the Caucasus Mountain Region (SNC-mt) has launched a call for papers for a focus issue on ‘Challenges and Opportunities for Sustainable Development in the Caucasus Mountains in a Context of Ongoing Geopolitical Shifts’ (www.mrd-journal.org). This focus issue of MRD is intended to help deepen understanding and knowledge of the hindering and enabling factors, as well as challenges and opportunities, for sustainable development in the Caucasus ecoregion, and to contribute to enhanced dialogue and cooperation. Authors are expected to present original research covering a wide range of critical and relevant environmental and socioeconomic aspects of sustainable mountain development included in the Caucasus Regional Research Agenda (www.caucasus-mt.net/regional-research-agenda). The aim of this workshop is to provide insights into MRD’s scope, section policies, and review process. It is open to anyone who would like to learn more about the journal or submit an article to MRD, especially to the upcoming focus issue. In general, going successfully through the peer-review process is often challenging. It requires not only knowledge of the basic rules of writing scientific articles but also an understanding of the review process and criteria. The associate editor will offer useful tips and recommendations on dos and don’ts when preparing a submission to MRD. Moreover, she will provide insights into MRD’s three peer-reviewed sections that present the different types of knowledge needed to design alternative development pathways, namely systems, transformation, and target knowledge. With these three journal sections, MRD seeks to reach out beyond the scientific community and address the knowledge needs of policymakers and development practitioners as well. Prospective authors planning on submitting their work to MRD and junior researchers are particularly welcome. There will be time for discussion, as well as for questions and answers.
