DESCRIPTION:

Tourism and landscape are closely related concepts, as the natural environment and cultural heritage of a place are often key drivers of tourism. However, the relationship between tourism and landscape can also be complex, as the growth of tourism can impact the environment and local communities. Scientists and planners can play a key role in the development of sustainable mountain tourism by conducting research on the impacts of tourism, developing evidence-based solutions, and collaborating with local communities and stakeholders. Through inter- and transdisciplinary approaches, they can help to ensure that the natural beauty and cultural heritage of mountain landscapes are preserved for future generations.

The focus of the plenary session is to use the information obtained from scientific research to ensure the implementation of transformation pathways in sustainable tourism. The discussion will also center around the role of transdisciplinary research in identifying and implementing sustainable tourism development strategies in the Caucasus region. We invite international and local experts, scientists, governmental representatives, and practitioners from Caucasus, Carpathian, Pyrenean, and Alpine regions to embark on a debate about the important themes discussed in this session
