Research interests
My research focuses on unraveling the interactions between tectonics and climate from the continental rock record. I use oxygen and carbon stable isotope geochemistry as a proxy for surface uplift and paleoenvironment. For the essential age constraints, I combine magnetostratigraphy and 40Ar/39Ar geochronology with existing mammal ages. Currently, my research concentrates on the Neogene evolution of the present-day Central Anatolian Plateau.
I have been conducting research in the fields of paleomagnetism and rock magnetism, which I use as a tool to restore the large-scale geometry of mountain belts and provide paleogeographic reconstructions. Remagnetization mechanisms in sedimentary rocks are of special interest to me. The field areas of my studies are concentrated around the Black Sea and the Caspian Sea.
