The Scientific Network for the Caucasus Mountain Region (SNC-mt) was established back in 2014 as a network for the sustainable development of mountain regions of the Caucasus. Despite this fact, a number of scientific humanitarian, and social disciplines remain beyond the mainstream interests of the network such as history, anthropology, and political science and its application here and now. Moreover, such topics as organisation/management of certain sectors like e.g., the education system, or environmental management remain beyond the interests of scientists affiliated closely with the SNC-mt. Such topics like cultural heritage protection or making remains also quite aside too. In order to build a more sustainable and peaceful path to the future for mountain populations in the Caucasus, there is a need to broaden the area of the SNC-mt and Sustainable Caucasus effort by including ‘traditionally’ less covered and less integrated into sustainable mountain development (SMD) research and policy topics such as sociology, anthropology, history, politics/political science (e.g., conflict resolution), and cultural heritage preservation and protection, both tangible and intangible. At the workshop besides the presentation of different papers, we’d like to start a discussion of strengthening of above-mentioned ‘flange’ of disciplines with the Caucasus network. |
